Yuhoen Fruits Land, located at Kumamoto Prefecture, is a huge farm, six hectares in size. This tourist farm started about fifty years ago, to promote the joy of picking fruits.

Visitors can pick six types of fruits such as strawberries, pears, grapes and oranges, along with chestnut and bamboo shoot, or even eggs laid by the chickens ranging freely. The fruit picking is held throughout the year. (Pear and grapes in summer, oranges and persimmons in autumn, and strawberries from winter to spring.)

The visitors are charged an admission fee, and they can eat all the fruits in the farm. An additional fee will be charged if they wish to take the fruits home.

The farm takes pride in the fact that if the timing is right, visitors can pick ripe fruits off the trees. The fruits have a full, sweet taste, quite different from the products sold at stores.

“Shun-cafe Kawayuka” serves various dishes made from the farm products, as well as local products.

The popular menu is the om-rice (fried rice wrapped in a thin omelet), made from the eggs laid in the farm. Tarts and jelly rolls, made from the fruits in the farm, are also popular. The soft chiffon cake is the favorite choice for a souvenir.

Mr. Tajiri, the farm manager said, “In Japan, a wide variety of fruits is cultivated throughout the year. Please visit us, and taste the fruits of the season.” Yuhoen hopes to serve their customers by cultivating delicious fruits.
