Hamamatsu Fruit Park Tokinosumika is a tourist farm in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Visitors can enjoy fifteen types of fruits, such as strawberries, peaches and apples.
The most popular course at Tokinosumika is the all-you-can-eat, thirty-minute strawberry picking tour, which is available from mid-December to late May. Visitors can enjoy cultivars such as the sweet tasting “Akihime” and deep-flavored “Beni Hoppe.”
The farm employs a “high cultivation technique,” with the trellis set above the ground. The trellis has two levels, so that small children and wheelchair users can also enjoy picking strawberries from the lower level. Different cultivars are grown on each level, so the visitors can compare the difference.
To satisfy their customers, the farm devises creative ways to cultivate the fruits. Strawberries are thinned out to increase the sweetness of the remaining fruit, the greenhouse temperature is controlled 24 hours a day, and special attention is paid to the quality of the farm soil.
Visitors can also enjoy various activities at this park. The “Bath of Dragonfly” offers a highly carbonated spring bath, and hand-made sausages and seafood can be enjoyed at “Barbecue Garden.” There are also Segways running around inside the park.
