Takayama Orchard, located in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, welcomes many visitors who enjoy grape and persimmon picking from summer to fall. Their original fruit, a type of grape named “fairy nipples”, is very popular among the visitors. This grape is a rare type which can be eaten skin and all, but it is also difficult to cultivate.
Please note that the visitors cannot eat their pickings at Takayama Orchard. They are asked to take them back for a price of 1100 yen per kilogram (grapes) and 550 yen per kilogram (persimmons). Samples are available for visitors.
The owner, Mr. Takayama said, “I always try to make a joke in conversations.” He speaks English fluently, and enjoys talking with the visitors from abroad.
Visitors can also enjoy barbecues at the orchard. Mr. Takayama started this service, as it was not offered by any other orchards. He also plans to cultivate flowers in the orchard, so visitors can enjoy them throughout the year.
In April, the local TV station comes to the orchard to film the cherry blossoms, along with a large number of visitors.
If you have a chance to visit, be sure to make reservations for the picking of fruits or a barbecue.
