Nikko Strawberry Park

Nikko Strawberry Park is Nikko city’s only strawberry farm. In addition to growing Tochigi’s famous tochiotome strawberries, you will also find sky berries, beni hoppe, and yayoi hime varieties here.

The ideal methods of cultivating each variety of berry have been studied here, and as a result, the tochiotome and sky berry types are grown in soil, while the yayoi hime and beni hoppe undergo raised cultivation. One additional feature of the cultivation techniques used at Nikko Sky Berry Park is that they use half the amount of chemical fertilizer than other farms, relying instead on organic fertilizer. As a result, they are the only strawberry farm in Tochigi prefecture to be certified as making Special Cultivation Agricultural Produce (Link Tea).

For the strawberry picking courses, you can choose 30 minute all-you-can-eat courses for either one or two varieties of berry! Not only can you enjoy the fresh taste of the strawberries, but they also provide condensed milk that you can use as a topping on the strawberries too, allowing you to enjoy the sweet harmony of these two flavors as well. Plus, music is played in the greenhouses as well, which makes it even easier to relax and enjoy your time hunting for strawberries. The raised cultivation greenhouse is also both stroller and wheelchair accessible too.

Thanks to Nikko’s typically low temperature all year round, it is possible to come and enjoy strawberry picking for a longer season that most places, starting from early December and lasting through until about the middle of June.

As many TV programs from overseas have filmed at Nikko Sky Berry Park, there are many international visitors to this strawberry farm every year. Although there aren’t any English speaking staff on hand here, they are capable of guiding you both to the greenhouse and a bit on the tour itself, so there is nothing to worry about if you aren’t confident in your Japanese skills. Please remember to book your strawberry picking time in advance. Both Nikko Toshogu Shrine and Kinugawa Onsen are located nearby as well, so if you are planning to sightsee there, you should make a reservation and pick some strawberries as well.
